Neverland for local Troupe

Maritime Dance Academy will be transformed into Neverland tomorrow as the school’s performance group mounts its production of Peter Pan — complete with pirates and lost boys.“This season’s show has wonderful choreography, bright costumes and brand new sets,” artistic director Kelly Horne said. The 35-minute dance was performed this week at Halifax public schools, but will be premiered to the public tomorrow with two shows at the academy’s Bedford location.

Since the group began touring in 2000, it has performed numerous shows. Among their past productions are Snow White, The Music Man and Peter and the Wolf.

The performance group is a non-profit organization that shares studio space with the academy.

Horne said the group is made up entirely of nonprofessional dancers, aged 12 to 21, all of whom are also students at the academy.

“As talented young dancers, the performance group gives them the opportunity to further expand their technical dance training with performance-oriented training and experience,” Horne said.
